Primary Contact/Project Director

If you’re the faculty or staff member seeking the grant, you’re considered the primary contact on the application and will work with the Grants Office during many steps of the process. Some grants require the hiring of a full-time project director. Primary contacts and project directors handle numerous duties, including:

  • Assist in the conceptualization, development and writing of the grant proposal narrative and budget.
  • Implement and conduct the project according to the sponsor requirements as stipulated in the terms and conditions in the notification of award (NOA) and in compliance with the sponsor’s policies.
  • Obtain sponsor approval for budgetary changes or changes in the scope and objectives of the project.
  • Notify accounting services, the Grants Office and/or the ÎçÒ¹¸£Àû¶Ìƪ Foundation of any sponsor approved changes to the budget, objectives or scope of the project.
  • Supervise all budget expenditures in conformity with the approved budget and the College and sponsor policies.
  • Complete quarterly and annual reports as required by the sponsor. Submit original reports to Accounting and Business Services for review and approval. Once approved, reports will be forwarded to the associate superintendent of business services and economic development for final signature and approval then returned to the primary contact/project director. Reports must be submitted at least 10 business days prior to the sponsor’s due date.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of project activities and services including milestones, project accomplishments and progress toward reaching the stated goals and objectives of the project.
  • Ensure no conflicts of interest are involved with the project, including subcontracting. Adhere by the college’s policies and applicable laws regarding conflict of interest.
  • Adhere to all pertinent policies and law regarding the stewardship of grant funds to institutions of higher education.

IEPP Fall Summit | January 28th

  • On Jan. 28, the University of California, Riverside’s Bourns College of Engineering (BCOE) hosted the Transfer Pathways Summit on their campus. The event brought together faculty and administrators from K-12 feeder districts, ÎçÒ¹¸£Àû¶Ìƪ, and UCR to foster a regional ecosystem of practices that support seamless student transitions into engineering careers.
  • The summit featured focused discussions aimed at breaking down institutional silos and sharing best practices to ensure students not only complete the necessary transfer-level math and science courses but also receive comprehensive academic and professional support. The goal is to prepare students for high-skill, high-wage careers in engineering.
  • The event is part of the 2+2+2 framework, a regional partnership connecting K-12 schools, community colleges, and universities. Funded by a new K-16 sub-award from UCR, the initiative supports the development of the Inland Engineering Pathways Partnership, which seeks to strengthen engineering education and career readiness across the region.

IEPP Spring Summit | April 30th

  • At the end of April, the Inland Engineering Pathways Partnership (IEPP) hosted a transfer pathways summit at Corona High School. Faculty, staff, and administrators from all IEPP partnered institutions convened to learn about Corona High School Career & Technical Education pathways in Engineering and Aviation through tours of their facilities and heard directly from students who shared their experiences in these pathways.
  • Jose Del Real Viramontes, Assistant Professor at the UCR School of Education, also shared his research on the transfer student experience followed by an open question and answer session.
  • The event concluded with several small group discussions centered on best practices and solutions to issues raised at the prior Summit in January. The event served as an avenue for interinstitutional collaboration focused on strengthening engineering pathways from high school, through ÎçÒ¹¸£Àû¶Ìƪ, and to the UCR Bourns College of Engineering.

ÎçÒ¹¸£Àû¶Ìƪ Field Trip to UC Riverside Bourns College of Engineering | May 23rd

  • ÎçÒ¹¸£Àû¶Ìƪ Students were invited to take a tour of the UC Riverside Bourns College of Engineering facilities, hear from a UCR student panel, and speak to UCR BCOE faculty. The engineering facilities that we toured included: The UCR Machine Shop, the Mechanical Engineering Design & Development Lab (MEDDL), the Bioengineering Maker Space, and the BCOE classrooms. Speakers on the UCR student panel included a NC alumna who gave insight on her transfer experience from ÎçÒ¹¸£Àû¶Ìƪ to UCR BCOE and her internship/work experiences. Faculty include professors in the fields of computer engineering and bioengineering.

ÎçÒ¹¸£Àû¶Ìƪ Chemistry Bootcamp | June 16th – 18th

  • In collaboration with MESA, our grant hosted a 3-day chemistry bootcamp led by Dr. Weining Cui.
  • Incoming and current ÎçÒ¹¸£Àû¶Ìƪ were invited to the Chemistry Bootcamp that prepared them for the NC Chemistry Diagnostic Test allowing them to forego Chemistry 2A and go straight into Chemistry 1A.
